How would you classify your music?
BREWGRASS! It is a unique blend six generations deep of American-Roots musical fusion (including original songs and a heavy beat with an ultra-modern delivery and high-energy live stage show).
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
I have a wide variety of musical influences, for different reasons, some include:
1.) Of course my Father (Finley J. Brewer Jr.) and Grandfather (Finley J. Brewer Sr.), the 3rd and 4th generations of Brewers.
2.) Little Richard, for his charisma, being a forerunner, and one of the originators of Rock and Roll.
3.) Elvis, for his ability to sing any song in any genre (and make it his own) and of course his voice, “The most recognizable voice in music history.”
4.) Liberace, for his work ethic and being a showman for his fans.
5.) Lastly, I have so many Bluegrass and Country influences, all for different reasons besides singing. Some for being different, some for being rough and rowdy, some for being humble with their talent, some for giving back, etc…All music artists are influential. Some more than others, but, still above. Odd as it may seem, I have learned something from every music artist, most, I have learned “What to Do,” some I have learned “What NOT to do.” Both are equally important.
What do you want fans to take from your music?
Well, my goal is to touch the fans with my music, I want to make them dance, cry, shout, remember their favorite memories, and heal them. Music is a medicine for what ails you.
How’s the music scene in your locale?
The pandemic has changed the music scene globally. But, for the most part, the music scene has stayed in tack, maybe just a little smaller during the difficult times. Music is a lifeline to the world, so there are times the world slows down and other times it speeds up. Music is always there for either. Thank Goodness!
When did you know you were destined for music?
All I’ve ever known was music since I was old enough to hear it. Music has always been a part of my life.
My Dad was always playing the guitar and singing around the house. I showed interest in playing the guitar, so he insisted that I learn to read music, so I started guitar lessons early on.
I’ve never been away from my guitar for more than a day or so, my entire life.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
Odd as it may seem, I have never been to a concert, that I was not performing at. I have seen so many wonderful concerts performed by legends that have passed on, all from backstage or stage-side throughout my career.
This is what I love about performing live: seeing things as they evolve, with no planning and the feeling of being on the edge of something great happening. The roar of the crowd, the atmosphere, the connection with the audience, and meeting lots of wonderful people.
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?
“Pass along the Good” is definitely a stand-out tune as it has such a vast meaning to the listener. It can mean so many things to so many people. It is aimed at healing our country and is a guide to better times ahead. Pass Along the Good, was written by myself and Americana music icon, Jim Lauderdale.
We switch off vocally and we both really enjoyed writing and recording together. It is a feel-good song!
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
I feel like the pandemic really pushed me, my sons, and the team, to adapt and reinvent our methods of promotion and performing. Along with adding unconventional venues and reaching new audiences worldwide. I feel like we are a stronger force by overcoming so many obstacles over the last few years.
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would have to say, Elvis, just because of his impact. It is impossible to find a person, from any walk of life, that has not heard of Elvis. Now, that’s a music star.
What’s next for you?
Full speed ahead! We are in the studio doing some recording and have a good tour schedule this year. I am dedicated to our fans and look forward to seeing them somewhere across the country.
