Greetings tech fiends, it’s that time of the week again. Before we dive into today’s column, here’s the usual weekly reminder that if you’re looking to find even more sick bands, you can do so here.
Another Tuesday rolls by, and we’ve got another great premiere to share with you all. Today’s premiere is “Forever Deceiving Dismal Gods” from Heaving Earth. The song comes from the group’s upcoming third album, Darkness of God which comes out on May 27th via Lavadome Productions. As usual, you’re welcome to immediately scroll below and click play, though you can read on if you’d like to learn more about the release and the project as a whole.
For those who don’t know the reference hidden within their band’s name, it’s a callback to “Heaving Earth” from the classic Morbid Angel album, Formula’s Fatal to the Flesh. In a certain sense, their name alone exemplifies what the band Heaving Earth has always been about. One foot steeped in the old school death metal way, another in the modern and more complex forms of death metal. With a keen interest in really exploring how to make the best of both worlds work together in varied ways per release.
If you’re new to the group, they’re based in the Czech Republic and have been around since 2008. As cited above, Darkness of God Serves as their third album and depending on if you want to count their demos and EPs, it will be their seventh release. I first heard of the group back in 2015 when they were on the cusp of releasing their second album, Denouncing the Holy Throneand helped the band launch “Jesus Died” at No Clean Singing before it came out.
As fantastic an album as Denouncing the Holy Throne is, I’m really excited for today’s premiere of “Forever Denouncing Dismal Gods” because the group’s upcoming album, Darkness of God is by far their best work yet. The band explains that their desire to evolve necessitated change, “Darkness of God is different from Denouncing the Holy Throne, for sure. We felt that we did pretty much everything we could with the traditional formula on Denouncing and weren’t willing to write Denouncing , part two. Therefore, it was time to expand the Heaving Earth sound, even if the decision later led to major line-up changes.”
Aiding the group on “Forever Deceiving Dismal Gods” on session drums is Giulio Galati known for his playing in Hideous Divinity, Nero di Marte, and this year’s Continuum of Xuul release which we premiered a song for recently. It’s also worth noting that the line-up on Darkness of God It consists entirely of musicians playing on their first Heaving Earth release besides finding guitarist Tomáš Halama. From start to finish, Darkness of God sees Heaving Earth offering up their finest music to date while doing so within an expanded musical palette to boot. The album’s fantastic production from Ad Nauseam guitarist Andrea Petucco who mixed and mastered the album is also equally worthy of praise.
So be sure to check out Heaving Earth – “Forever Deceiving Dismal Gods” below. This song is a fantastic example of how tech-death can lead to some captivating and ambitious music in the right hands. Hearing is believing, and if you’re excited about Darkness of God after listening to today’s premiere, pre-orders can be placed here and here. You can follow the group over on the Heaving Earth Facebook page.
