We’re super excited to be spending some time today with musical chanteuse Harper Starling who has a lot of exciting projects in the offering: welcome to our humble pages, Harper! Before jumping down the rabbit hole how has the New Year been treating you so far?
Thanks for having me back! The New Year has kicked off with a bang as I am currently in the UK shooting photos to be featured in two magazines (ReVamp and Rollacoaster), touring with The Wanted until end of March, then back to Los Angeles for my next music video and then Las Vegas to perform at the Living Legend Awards during Grammy week April 2nd. Then catching my breath.
Congratulations on the new single that dropped February 18, Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe)! What was the genesis behind this catchy song?
Thank you! Like most of my creations, they start organically and build into a surprise sometimes even for me.
Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe) follows up your 2021 singles No More What If and Cannot Tell a Lie. What made Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe) the perfect follow-up to last year’s efforts?
This track is the perfect way to start a new year as it’s about a transformation from within and learning to love yourself. New year, new you.
The new single is a potent mix of super-strong vocals and snappy dance pop beats, creating a genuine happy sound. Was that always the intention, to make Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe) an upbeat track?
Absolutely! Cindy Valentine, Joe Cruz and I all felt that this song needed a happy sound to match the upbeat energy and feel-good lyrics.
Who was your producer on Say My Name (Why Don’t Ya Babe) and what was that collaboration like?
The single was co-produced by Cindy Valentine and Joe Cruz. They are insanely talented and artists have worked with so many huge in the business. It was a wonderful experience.

A feeling of potential and confidence to love every part of yourself.
Your music is a part of the Star Groomer Records label. What made Star Groomer the right home for your music?
Star Groomer Records truly cares about me and my music and wants the best for my career. I’ve also grown so much as an artist both vocally and lyrically with the label.
Fans are speculating that you may be dropping an LP in 2022. Can you give us any hints as to what is happening on that front?
Absolutely! Just in time for my A1 tour.
You’ve cooperated with talented folks such as Cindy Valentine and Niko the Kid. What did these two stalwarts of the music industry impart on you?
To really speak from the heart and to connect with your music/writing because if it’s authentic to you, others will connect and recognize it as well.
Were you surprised by how quickly Euphoria took off on the charts?
Absolutely. It all started from seeing the word ‘Euphoria’ in a book I was reading. That became a pop record which quickly jumped to #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart.
You hail from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. How do those roots inform your distinctive style of music
Milwaukee is a very feel-good place to live and I’ve always been a happy child and hope my music and my energy is as infectious to all my fans!
How does your family feel about your success?
They are over the moon with joy and super supportive! My sister even got a matching tattoo with me on the day I decided to pursue a career in music.
You’ve opened for no less than a stellar talent Sheryl Crow alongside Sigmund Snopek of the Violent Femmes. Did you have the opportunity to learn anything from Sheryl personally and/or professionally during that time?
I was so honored to be on the same stage as Sheryl Crow at Summerfest. Sadly, it was only one day but she gave an outstanding performance.
Speaking of tours – You’re set for The Wanted tour which kicks off on March 3rd in Glasgow. What would you like fans to know about this tour?
I expect my fans to have the best time, sing along, and let’s make it memorable!
