POLISH, welcome to VENTS! Give us the lowdown. What’s your new album about?
My newly released first album named POLISH’ED is the final edit of the album as I’ve had it released before and it has gone through many changes over the past 7 years or so. This version now is the best it has ever been and I’m proud to have got it right at last. The album POLISH’ED is the first of 7 albums I intend to release eventually and I’ve been working on all 7 albums for the past 10 or 12 years or so. This first album is more of an introduction to my art as all my albums have certain themes to them and have songs relating to the album title on them. The name for this album is really a bit of a laugh as it takes the similarity of the words polished and POLISH’ED as well as my artist name POLISH and the cleaning substance polish. My artist name is POLISH because of my Polish heritage and Polish and polish are both spelt the same way but said differently, so I used this as to bring attention to my thinking of this.
Where did the inspiration come from?
The inspiration for me taking on this mammoth project has really all stemmed from me starting off just writing small little poems at first as a bit of fun, then me finding enjoyment in writing them and then moving on to writing raps and then converting them into songs , then making music with Logic Pro X after taking a music sequencing evening class a couple of times. It has all just grown and grown from the start of very basic beginnings and I’ve done it all with very little or no help from anyone and with very little resources.
Is there anything that you consider an essential component of your sound?
Yes, the answer to that is simply the big, phat, dirty bass. It’s what my art is all about. I think my bass is unique and of extreme quality. My talent I express through my incredible bass sounds and I show how varied and wide ranging my collection of bass sounds are throughout all of my albums that are to come.
Can you tell us a story when you were recording – or maybe a story about a song on there?
Really there’s no story to tell about my recording as it was just me by myself in my room recording into my Imac. That is the problem, I’ve only had myself to use as I’ve very limited resources and all the recording is just me with no one else as I’ve had no help from anyone and it is all me in the album. It would have been nice to have some other input for some of the songs as I’ve had ideas for some songs with other vocals in but with no one to use for this I can’t use it, so it is what it has to be and that is me alone with no one else. I’ve used effects on my vocals to try and have some difference to it just being my voice, some work, some may not, it’s all I’ve got to work with. The good thing is I’ve had time to work with what I’ve got and make the most out of it, even when I’ve been through pain recording with certain health problems that can have an affect on me being able to do what I have to do to get my music completed.
Aside from other artists, what inspires you to write?
The challenge of creating an original and inventive piece of work that shows my talent as a writer, as in the beginning all I had were lyrics and words and nothing else and that is all I had to do was write and write some more, until I went a step further and took a music sequencing evening class which has helped me get a basic understanding of how Logic works. Not until I had compensation for an incident that occurred a while back now I was able to buy my Imac computer and then take my art further to what it is today by playing and learning through my Imac using Logic Pro X. The incident turned out to be the best thing I could’ve done as I haven’t looked back since.
You’re quite out there with your lyrics. What place do they come from?
My lyrics I wrote over 10 years ago and I took 2 years writing all the songs on my 7 albums as well as more songs not to be used, yet. The content of my lyrics is offensive and that comes from the server mental health problems I’ve encountered for the past 20 years or so of my life that have left me dejected because of unjust actions caused to me by other people I’ve known that has not been great, especially when it all comes from early childhood traumatization. It’s been shit, but I’ve risen above the critics and self-doubt by undertaking this massive project and although there has been many a time when I could’ve given up and I could’ve given up but I haven’t and I never will now, I’ve come too far now with my work to give up ever. I don’t want to go back to the way it was before and that is what has driven me to succeed with my music.
What are your goals and ambitions in 2022?
The main goal is to succeed with my career by becoming an internationally recognised artist and that my art certainly gets the full recognition and plentiful reward my talent most deserves. To be a signed artist with a renowned record label is an ambition that I want to achieve so I can get paid for all the work I’ve painstakingly labored to put into my art for over the past 12 or so years. I want my situation to improve and to keep on improving as it has done since I’ve made massive strides with my production of my music and as it has slowly progressed over the years I’m immensely excited about where this journey will take me and what may happen when I make it.
