Hey NIAZ, welcome to VENTS! When did you begin your music career?
Hello, VENTS! Thanks a lot for this opportunity. I have been around music since I was a child, but I started producing music since I was about 18 years old. At the earlier stages, I was mainly performing with the harmonium and tabla, both south Asian instruments. Then, as time progressed, I began incorporating electronic musical equipment into my performances. During that time, I started experimenting with the recording aspect of music production.
Were you writing and still performing during the pandemic? Any major life changes?
The pandemic was definitely a tough time for everyone. I actually was working on a few tunes during that time when not many people were going outside. However, I really did not have the choice of simply staying home, and this was mainly because I have a career in law enforcement. I was required to be at work at all times. As far as a major life changes, I did lose a few of my colleagues who I knew very well, to covid. So, that was quite a sad time. However, from the academic perspective, I completed my master’s degree during the height of the pandemic, and all the schools were virtually holding their graduation ceremonies, and I couldn’t attend in person. That is something I will never forget.
Please describe the 5th album you are working on. New sound? Who are you working with?
As far as albums go, I think that I am done. Lately, I’ve been feeling that music production wise, it’s all about the singles. Strictly in my own views, albums used to be a big thing when people were listening to music on CDs, cassettes, and what have you. However, now, everything is digital. People have Bluetooth in their cars and digital music players in their smartphones. Everyone has a playlist which is a collection of different artists’ music. So, with that mindset, I aim to just keep putting singles out there, you know?
I have been working on a few different new tunes which are not connected to one another, but they are all just sitting there unfinished in my studio. I’ve been meaning to complete them, but my work and school have been keeping me really tied down lately.
Up until now, I have not collaborated with another artist, but I have produced music for other artists. Some of my listeners have constantly asked as to why I do not work with other artists. I guess that I had just gotten too comfortable in working solo. That is going to change very soon.
If you weren’t in music, what do you think you’d be doing?
Thank God for music, I do not have any bad habits. Music keeps me away from bad company and just overall, doing nefarious things. It really helps to hold everything together in life. It acts as glue, a compressor glue, if you will. I am actually blessed to have a fruitful and full time career in law enforcement with the NYPD for the last 15+ years. I am currently a police sergeant, and I supervise officers and detectives. It’s really awesome. Tough…but awesome. I am blessed to have music by my side even with an active career in law enforcement.
Where are you located? How has this affected your music?
I have been living in New York City since the age of 10, and I come from Bangladesh. From the moment I had arrived, I began to see just how beautiful the American culture is. I grew up learning Bengali music, but when I started producing music, I felt compelled to incorporate the American musical genres into my own music. I have experimented with cross-referencing the various styles of music, such as Bengali with English rap or Bengali with Reggaeton beats and etcetera.
Any tour?
As much as I’d love to, any touring at the present time is simply not feasible. Once again, this is due to my full time job and education. I have been performing locally on a consistent basis, and I look forward to continuing that for the time being.
What’s next?
You know, I came to this country mainly for a better education. I have had some significant interferences while attaining my educational goals. However, I kept on going. As it stands now, I am pursuing a PhD in Criminal Justice and Criminology at Keiser University. God willing, I will graduate in June of 2025. Once I complete this, it will truly feel like my purpose of coming to the United States, is fulfilled. However, music will always be right by my side, and that will never change. With bits and pieces of studio time here and there, I will begin releasing my singles that have been sitting there unfinished and sad.
